Who made Sindy dolls?

 Sindy dolls were first made by Pedigree in 1963.

Over time, other companies, most notably Hasbro, also produced Sindy dolls as the brand license were outsourced.  

Today, Sindy continues as a licensed brand, connecting its original heritage with modern releases.

The Original Maker: Pedigree (1963–mid-1980s)

Pedigree Soft Toys Ltd, part of the British toy group Lines Bros Ltd, developed and produced the first Sindy dolls. The early design was created in-house, reflecting contemporary British fashion and youth culture.

Although Sindy was initially made in the UK, production soon expanded to Hong Kong during the 1960s. Most vintage Sindy dolls from the classic era are therefore associated with Pedigree, regardless of where they were manufactured. 

Changes in Ownership and Production

Over time, Sindy was produced by several different companies due to ownership changes and licensing agreements.

In the late 1980s and 1990s, Hasbro took over production and redesigned Sindy for a more international market. For the US and Australian market the Marx company produced Sindy dolls 1978-1979. 

In the late 1990s and 2000s, the brand returned to British control and was relaunched by companies such as Vivid Imaginations, often in partnership with major UK retailers.

Today, Sindy is owned by Pedigree Toys and Brands Ltd and is produced through licensed partnerships, including recent releases by Kid Kreations.
