Before Barbie took over the Brazilian fashion doll market, Susi was already a beloved icon.
In this video, I explore the history of Estrela's iconic fashion doll, from her origins as a licensed version of Tammy to becoming Brazil's own beloved fashion doll in 1966. I also look at her return in 1997, later collector editions, and why Susi remains so fascinating to collectors today.
I'll also share the three Susi dolls in my personal collection:
• Susi Astronauta in her original red astronaut outfit
• Two late-1990s Susi dolls with the classic body sculpt
• An outfit swap with vintage Tammy fashions from 1963.
Along the way we'll reflect on body types, factory markings, face sculpts, and how Susi evolved over the decades.
If you enjoy doll history, vintage fashion dolls, identification guides, and personal collecting stories, you've come to the right place.
Susi, created by Estrela, is Brazil’s answer to iconic dolls like Sindy (UK) and Tammy (US).
In this video I unbox a new to me Susi arriving to my collection.
